June 1st marks one year since I published my first Medium post about handling client conflict as a freelancer. To date, it has a whopping 17 reads.

Since then, my progress on Medium has been more akin to the tortoise than the hare — slow but steady.

I’ve published just shy of 100 stories and have a handful of bigger hits along with numerous modest ones. I haven’t had a full-on viral post just yet.

In the spirit of my Medium birthday, I wanted to share some secrets of this platform with you.

No, Medium isn’t dying

Those people who say Medium is dying? I almost never see them comment on anyone else’s posts. And I read a *lot* of Medium articles.

Meanwhile, newbies are having tremendous success because they write great stuff and engage with others.

If you think Medium is just a writing platform, you’re going to struggle. Even if you’re really talented.

Medium is also social media, so reciprocation is critical.

Yes, some posts are going to hit the algorithm just right and take off whether your community reads them or not. But that’s the slim…
